An Animated Alum

September 30, 2005

The 2005-06 Distinguished Alumnus Lecture Series kicks off with a talk by award-winning animator Bill Plympton (1969 Cartooning) on Thursday, October 6, 7pm, in the Amphitheater, 209 East 23rd Street, 3rd floor. Plympton’s animated features and shorts are marked by a distinctly surreal style. His 20-year career has included such highlights as Hair High (2004), I Married a Strange Person (1998), Plymptoons (1990) and The Tune (1992), his first full-length feature film. This year he received his second Academy Award nomination for the short film Guard Dog. Plympton will be screening classics from his archives, rare shorts and some of his new work, including a sneak preview, rough-cut version of Guide Dog, the forthcoming sequel to Guard Dog. He will also be doing live drawings of his characters.
