Summer in the Studio

July 22, 2005

As part of the College’s summer offerings, the Division of Continuing Education presents several studio residencies, giving serious artists an opportunity to work intensively in a private studio and receive individual critiques from the SVA faculty. Summer 2005 featured a brand-new studio residency – public art – added to the existing programs in painting and mixed media, and sculpture, installation and new media art; in addition, there is a photography residency that offers full access to SVA’s photo facilities instead of an individual studio.

After a summer of concentrated work, the artists in each of the programs are presenting an open studios event, allowing visitors to view the work they have been doing throughout the month-long residencies. The event takes place on Thursday, August 4, 6 – 9pm, in three locations: 141 West 21st Street, 4th and 6th floors (painting); Westside Gallery, 141 West 21st Street (photography); and 30 West 17th Street (sculpture and public art).
