Most visual artists are accustomed to creating their work in the privacy of a studio, away from the eyes of the public. Robert Melee (BFA 1990 Fine Arts), on the other hand, is taking to the stage to display his talents. Specifically, Robert Melee’s Talent Show is being served up at The Kitchen, 512 West 19th Street, June 29 – 30. Merging irreverent visual art with flamboyant performance, Melee strings together an evening of sensational acts, featuring a cast of established performers, underground celebrities and the artist’s own mother. The carnivalesque program unfolds in a talent show format and includes screenings of Melee’s videos.
BFA Photography Department faculty member Elinor Carucci will also be briefly taking the stage as part of her visual work. Carucci has an upcoming book, Diary of a Dancer (Steidel), with a related exhibition on display at Ricco/Maresca Gallery, through August 19. Carucci will be part of a live dance performance at the gallery on Thursday, July 21, 6 – 8pm.
