Fresh Baked

May 6, 2005

SVA instructor and 1996 BFA Photography Department alum Orit Raff has a new solo exhibition, “Insatiable,” at Julie Saul Gallery, 535 West 22nd Street. The Israeli-born Raff combines large color photographs and video work made in bakeries, both in the U.S. and Israel. “Insatiable” is based on the etymological root in Hebrew of the two words lehem (bread) and milhama (war); a sculptural component at the center of the installation suggests flour bags or sandbags in the trenches. The exhibition is on display through Saturday, June 11; click here for images and more information about “Insatiable.”
