The College’s year-end schedule of exhibitions and events is in high gear, and the eagerly anticipated “Mentors” exhibition is opening in the Visual Arts Gallery. This annual BFA Photography Department exhibition showcases work from students’ year-long mentorships with leading members of the NYC arts community. Among this year’s mentors were Gregory Crewdson, photographer; Philip Gefter, The New York Times senior picture editor; and Simon Doonan, creative director of Barneys, columnist for The New York Observer, author and all-around arbiter of style. “Mentors” will be on display in the Visual Arts Gallery, 601 West 26th Street, Suite 1502, April 22 – May 7; there will be an opening reception on Tuesday, April 26, 6 – 8pm.
Another not-to-be-missed event is the spring semester’s Fine Arts Open Studios. Students in both the undergraduate and graduate programs open the doors of their studios to the public, showing their new work in a festive atmosphere and often transforming the spaces themselves into immersive works of art. The schedule of open studios events includes: BFA Fine Arts Sculpture, 30 West 17th Street, Monday, April 25, 5 – 9pm; BFA Fine Arts Painting, 141 West 21st Street, Fourth and Sixth Floors, Thursday, April 28, 5 – 9pm; MFA Fine Arts, 141 West 21st Street, Eighth and Ninth Floors, Thursday, April 28, 5 – 9pm; Friday, April 29, 12 – 8pm; and Saturday, April 30, 12 – 6pm.
