On Wednesday, March 30, the Office of Campus Life held the Fifth Annual Women’s Leadership Reception. This yearly event celebrates women of courage and vision, and presents awards to women student leaders in the areas of residence life, student government, community service and international student involvement.
The highlight of the evening was the award ceremony, during which 11 students, nominated by members of the SVA community, were recognized as outstanding leaders, both on and off campus. The campus life awards went to Monika Abate (senior, BFA Photography), Claudia de Almeida (senior, BFA Graphic Design), Sabrina Hall (senior, BFA Graphic Design) and Julie Kang (junior, Graphic Design). Rachel Berry (sophomore, BFA Photography) was recognized for her community service work. The residence life awards went to Madison Cliff (senior, BFA Film and Video), Lisa Case (senior, BFA Advertising and Graphic Design), Celeste Guarneri (senior, BFA Fine Arts) and Laura Turick (senior, BFA Fine Arts). Su Hyun Kim (freshman, BFA Graphic Design) won the international students award, and JiEun Lee (junior, BFA Graphic Design) won for her work in student government.
In other student-activity news, a group of SVA students is mounting a production of the musical Grease. Producer Mysti Rosenthal (first year, BFA Film and Video), along with co-directors Jess Mireau (first year, BFA Computer Art) and Sean Barrett (first year, Film and Video) and assistant director Katrina Lofaro (first year, Film and Video), founded the SVA Drama Club in October of 2004, and this is the club’s first production. The performance will be on Saturday, April 9, 8pm, at the High School of Art and Design, 1075 Second Avenue. For more information, contact SVAdrama@aol.com.
