Visual communication magazine CMYK recently announced the winner of its contest to select work for the cover of the spring 2005 issue. The winner is Lenny Naar, currently a senior in the BFA Graphic Design Department. Naar’s victorious design for issue 29 – selected from a pool of applicants from several prominent art schools – is a promotional piece for the Helvetica font, featuring eye-catching words placed on a model’s stomach and legs. The image tops an issue that is full of work by SVA students, and also features an interview with MFA Design Department co-chair Steven Heller in which he discusses the ineffable inspiration he gets from the quartz clock on his office wall.
