A team from SVA has won the first annual Beaux Arts Ball des Artistes competition. 3D Design Coordinator Kevin O’Callaghan worked with MFA Design students Carrie Solomon and Sue Walsh, and BFA Graphic Design students Andre Armenante and Erika Bettencourt. The competition, held Friday, April 1, in the Grand Ballroom of the Manhattan Center, had each team create a parade float on the theme of “Beauty,” which was presented at the midnight ball. SVA’s float, which incorporated robotic puppets on a moving stage, took the top prize of a free one-week trip to Paris, France, as part of a cultural exchange with Ecole des Beaux Arts. The winning team competed against five other NYC art schools: Fashion Institute of Technology, National Academy School of Fine Arts, New York Academy of Art, New York Studio School and Pratt Institute.
