Art for Life

April 22, 2005

On Friday, April 15, the Office of Student Health and Counseling Services, VASA and Student Outreach at SVA (SOSVA) presented the Hope Suicide Prevention Art Competition (HSPAC), which seeks to raise awareness of the College’s free counseling services. Coordinator of Student Health and Counseling Services Christine Gilchrist hosted the event in the Student Center, which included a presentation by Elizabeth Gough, education administrator of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. SOSVA President Laura Turick (senior, BFA Fine Arts) then announced the competition’s winners: Julie Kang (third year, Graphic Design), first place; Chinki Yi (senior, BFA Computer Art), second place; and Edwin Vazquez (second year, BFA Cartooning), third place. Donations from the Tim Sharkey memorial fund were used toward the prizes awarded. The winning work and the other entries from the HSPAC will be on display in the Student Center, 217 East 23rd Street, through the month of April.
