Cultural Politics

March 18, 2005

The influence of politics on art and culture – and vice versa – is a hot-button issue in today’s society. On Thursday, March 24, the BFA Fine Arts Department will host writers and art educators Okwui Enwezor and Saul Ostrow in a critical dialogue entitled “Politics of Culture.” Enwezor, who is about to begin as Dean of Academic Affairs at the San Francisco Art Institute, and Ostrow, the Dean of Visual Arts and Technologies Environment and Chair of Painting at The Cleveland Institute of Art, will discuss their takes on the present relationship of political views to aesthetics and art. The discussion will take place at 7pm in the Visual Arts Amphitheater, 209 East 23rd Street, Third Floor. Admission is free, but seating is limited so early arrival is recommended.
