Type Casting

February 25, 2005

“TDC51,” the Type Directors Club (TDC) annual competition for the year’s best typographic design, has announced that work by several students from the Advertising and Graphic Design Department will be included in the TDC’s annual. Typography 26, published at the end of 2005, features type design by SVA students Lauren Monchik, Lenny Naar, Megan Oiler, Anna Ostrovskaya and Susan Walsh. In addition, the jury has selected the department’s Senior Library, compiled by Chair Richard Wilde, for the annual. The students competed against nearly 2,500 other entrants from 37 countries for 13 slots, with SVA accounting for nearly half of the winning work. To coincide with the publication of Typography 26, the TDC will mount an exhibition of the winning work that will travel the world in the spring, and will open at Cooper Union on Thursday, July 14.
