Grads Made Good

February 11, 2005

Two recent graduates from SVA’s MFA programs are making big splashes in their respective fields. Michelle Mercurio (MFA 2003 Photography and Related Media) is mounting her second solo exhibition in Chelsea. “Entropy: Photographs by Michelle Mercurio,” will be on display at the Annina Nosei Gallery, 530 West 22nd Street, Second Floor, February 18 – March 12; there will be an opening reception on Friday, February 18, 6 – 8pm.

Luis Cantillo (MFA 2004 Computer Art) is also turning heads with his work. Cantillo’s thesis project, POPORO, has won a pair of awards – a first-place prize in the II Video Art Biennial at Washington, D.C.’s Cultural Center IADB; and a second-place finish at the File 2004 festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil. In addition to these awards, POPORO has been a festival selection at several venues around the world, including the Backup_Festival in Weimar, Germany; Urbes Interiores, in Bogota, Colombia; and Alaska’s Anchorage Film Festival.
