Visitors to SVA’s Web site, www.schoolofvisualarts.edu, may have noticed a fun new feature: Squidley, the site’s mascot, has been brought to life in a series of cartoon adventures. Animated by Celia Bullwinkel (BFA 2001 Animation), the cartoons follow Squidley as he navigates his first year as a student at SVA. The short pieces are updated frequently, and are building together into a feature story about the life of an art student in the big city. The current installment finds Squidley arriving at a drawing class and encountering his first nude model.
SVA’s site was designed by Creative Director Anthony P. Rhodes, Toni-Ann Agay, Adam Behar, Abimbola Famuyiwa (BFA 1997 Advertising and Graphic Design), James McKibben, Steve Osit, Ben Rhodes and Jonathan Robles (BFA 1999 Fine Arts), in collaboration with media-development firm Funny Garbage (co-founded by former SVA fine arts student Peter Girardi). It was recently named Best University Web Site of 2004 by the Web Marketing Association (WMA) in its WebAward Competition. “I think the team did outstanding work designing the site,” said Executive Vice President Rhodes, “and I am very proud that this WMA award so clearly demonstrates that I’m not alone in that opinion.”
