By the Book

MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department Chair Charles H. Traub has a new book of photography, entitled In the Still Life. Published this month by Quantuck Lane Press, the book contains over 100 color photographs that had lain in a box, forgotten, for 20 years. Inspired by Traub’s recent interest in still-life painting, he revisited the photos, assembling the seemingly unrelated and unplanned images into a story-like structure. “What I like about this book is that it has meaning and power that happened without any preconceived notion,” says Traub, noting that “a kind of vision or truth comes out, regardless of planning.”

Also new on bookstore shelves is Photoshop Masking and Compositing by Katrin Eismann, a member of the BFA Computer Art Department’s faculty; and the second edition of Design Literacy by Steven Heller, co-chair of the MFA Design Department.
