The MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department is making waves in Brooklyn with “Video Killed the Photo Star,” a screening of thesis work from the department’s video students at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). The screening takes place at BAM’s Rose Cinema, 30 Lafayette Avenue, on Thursday, September 30, 7pm, and is free. There is also video work on display at Postmasters Gallery, 459 West 19th Street, in Wolfgang Staehle’s (BFA 1978 Fine Arts), “2004,” an exhibition of several real-time video projections and a pre-recorded video. The exhibition is on display September 10 – October 16; there will be an opening reception on Friday, September 10, 6 – 8pm.
Moving over to film, Ryun Montenegro, a second-year student in the Film and Video Department, is a finalist in the 17th Annual Christopher Video Contest for College Students. Chosen from among over 250 entries, Montenegro is one of 25 finalists who creatively expressed the contest’s theme, “One Person Can Make a Difference.”
