Comic book artist Al Nickerson (BFA 1989 Media Arts) has an installment of his “Nihilist-Man” series included in a new comic anthology, Even More Fund Comics, benefiting the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. He has also started a new online column on comic-book matters, “Ya Can’t Erase Ink.”

Illustration and Cartooning Department instructor Steve Brodner and Fantagraphics Books are celebrating the release of Brodner’s new publication, Freedom Fries: the Political Art of Steve Brodner. There will be a book party at the Society of Illustrators, 128 East 63rd Street, on Monday, September 13, 6pm; and a book signing on Thursday, September 23, 7pm, at the Union Square Virgin Mega Store, 52 East 14th Street.

There’s also an Animation Block Party happening on Thursday, September 9, 8pm, at Office Ops, 57 Thames Street, Brooklyn. The party includes screenings of work by Animation Department instructors Irra Verbitsky, Don Duga, Tak Hoon Kim, Matt Sheridan, Howard Beckerman and Candy Kugel; seniors in the department LJ Murphy, Steig Retlin, Bob Fox, Olivia Janik, Bobby Houlihan and Hyung Kee Lee; alumni Anthony Mair (BFA 2004 Animation), Aaron Hughes (BFA 2003 Animation), Jimmy Calhoun (BFA 2003 Animation), Morgan Jacobson (BFA 2004 Animation), Biljana Labovic (BFA 2001 Animation) and Bill Plympton (1969 Media Arts); along with Emily Hubley (Thesis Advisor), Sharon Mooney (MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department Systems Administrator) and Jeff Scher (Graphic Design faculty). Admission is $5.
