The Alumni Society of SVA presents the next Distinguished Alumnus Lecture: Joe Quesada (BFA 1984 Media Arts), the editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics. Over the course of his career, Quesada has worked for every major comic book company, including Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image, Harris, Valiant, Chaos and Topps. On Thursday, September 23, 7pm in the Amphitheater, 209 East 23rd Street, Third Floor, Quesada will deliver a talk about his work, the current state of the comic-book industry and how aspiring comic artists can build a career in the industry. Admission is free.
In other alumni news, Phoebe Washburn (MFA 2002 Fine Arts) has a solo exhibition running through Friday, October 1, at LFL Gallery, 530 West 24th Street. Andrea Aimi (BFA 1992 Fine Arts) and Giovanni Garcia-Fenech (MFA 1995 Fine Arts) have work in “Semi-Lucid” at White Columns, 320 West 13th Street, through Sunday, October 17. There’s also a group show at Brooklyn Heights’ Rotunda Gallery, 33 Clinton Street, through Saturday, October 23, called “All the Numbers I Know”; it features work by Doug Morris (MFA 2003 Fine Arts), Donna Sharrett (BFA 1994 Fine Arts) and Juana Valdes (MFA 1993 Fine Arts).
