A New Chamber for Commerce

September 9, 2004

BFA Photography Department Chair Stephen Frailey and instructor James Moffat have created the first annual Art + Commerce Festival, focused on giving emerging photographers a venue in which to show their work. Taking place September 16 – 26 in the Tobacco Warehouse at the Empire-Fulton Ferry Landing in Brooklyn’s DUMBO section, the festival will feature the work of 62 photographers, selected from a pool of over 1,000 applicants.

Another faculty member from the department, Robert Flynt, has a new exhibition, “Induction,” opening at ClampArt, 531 West 25th Street. The exhibition, which features Flynt’s melding of original photos with images of military examinations and other documents, runs September 16 – October 30; there will be a reception on Thursday, September 16, 6 – 8pm.

Finally, alum Justine Kurland’s (BFA 1996 Photography) “Songs of Experience” is opening at Gorney Bravin + Lee, 534 West 26th Street, September 10 – October 9. The opening reception will take place on Friday, September 10, 6 – 8pm.
