Students Today, Oscar Tomorrow

A trio of SVA students has scored finalist slots in the Student Academy Awards. These awards are presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to recognize and encourage the nation’s top student filmmakers. Third-year Film, Video and Animation Department student Jeff Mednikow was nominated in the animation category for his film, Tricks for a Treat. Two second-year students in the MFA Computer Art Department also received nominations: Rob Castillo, in the alternative category, for The Storyboard of My Life; and Sukwon Shin, in animation, for Rock the World. The awards ceremony will be held at the Academy’s headquarters in Beverly Hills, California, on Sunday, June 13, at 6pm. For more information, visit
