Pass the Baton

March 26, 2004

The Marvelli Lab (167 North 9th Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn) is currently presenting Freehand, a collaborative drawing exhibition curated by Rachel Gugelberger, SVA’s Associate Director of Student Galleries. Twenty-two artists are participating in the improvisational group effort: Utilizing only a pencil, each artist was given 12 hours to work in a relay fashion, considering the previous artist’s work as their point of departure. The artists include Briony Barr (BFA Fine Arts, fourth year), Madeline Djerejian (MFA 1997 Photography), Dan Halm (MFA 2001 Illustration as Visual Essay), Nicholas Herman (SVA Student Galleries staff), Ulrike Heydenreich (MFA 2001 Fine Arts), Beata Pankiewicz (BFA 2003 Fine Arts) and Yuko Suzuki (BFA 2001 Fine Arts). There will be a party celebrating the completion of the “continuous drawing” on Friday, April 2, 7 – 10pm, at the Marvelli Lab, where the piece will be on view through Tuesday, April 6.
