Lemon in White

February 6, 2004

White Columns, 320 West 13th Street, recently opened East of the Sun and West of the Moon. Curated by gallery assistant Amie Scally, the exhibition features the work of seven artists, including SVA alumni Robert Lemon (BFA 1997 Fine Arts), who uses narrative patterns and pictorial motifs from traditional folklore. Lemon’s installation resembles a cabinet of curiosities, filled with books, an audio recording and drawings. Through these materials, Lemon relays the adventures of his invented humanoids—heroes, “Nature Man,” “Noseless Man” and his villain, “Ram”—in the struggle between good and evil. Other artists in the show include, John Bankston, Sarah Emerson, Chitra Ganesh, Jeff Grant, Clare Rojas and Marc Swanson.
