In 1997, Johan Grimonprez’s (MFA 1992 Fine Arts) film Dial H-I-S-T-O-R-Y seemed like a historical document, examining the hijacking and bombing of airplanes in the 1960s and 70s. Today, the film’s subject is very much in the present, and Grimonprez has released a hardcover book, Dial H-I-S-T-O-R-Y: A Film by Johan Grimonprez (Hatje Cantz Publishers, 2003), that looks closely at the stories of the people involved in the events, along with text by authors Don DeLillo and Slavoj Zizek. Grimonprez will be signing copies of the book on Wednesday, January 14, 6 – 8pm, at the New Museum Store, 583 Broadway. The museum will be screening a DVD of the film during the signing.
