Jose Alvarez (1995 Fine Arts) is one of 12 artists included in We Are Electric, an exhibition at Deitch Projects Gallery bringing together work that explores mental and ethereal terrain. The artists in the exhibition, representing various parts of the country, have created work that suggests a new psychedelic and spiritual aesthetic. Personal totems, icons, mysteries and mythologies are manifested in a variety of media, including sculpture, painting and collage. We Are Electric will be on view at Deitch, 18 Wooster Street, from November 8 to December 20. There will be an opening reception Saturday, November 8, 6 to 9pm.

Alvarez, who was featured in the 2002 Whitney Biennial, explores issues of power and faith at Deitch with a new body of work that he calls Crystal Paintings. He utilizes rock crystals to allude to the way in which people tend to invest objects with power. For more information about the exhibition, please call the gallery at 212.343.7300.
