Design for All

November 14, 2003

Barnes & Noble’s Chelsea branch is now featuring a selection of “book picks” from students in design classes taught by Advertising and Graphic Design Department instructor Genevieve Williams. The list of books chosen range from titles on design to film noir and photography. The selections now cover two tables and an “end-cap” at the 6th Avenue store. A showcase of type design work from Williams’ students now hangs along the stairway leading up to the bookstore’s café . Furthermore, those passing the halls at SVA’s 209 East 23rd Street building can head up to the 2nd floor hallway and catch a glimpse of type design work from all three sections of design taught by Williams, including intermediate design, type design and portfolio classes.

The bookstore hopes to continue its “book picks” and café exhibition series with SVA students. They believe it is a great match since the store’s strengths are reflected in some of the disciplines taught at SVA: fine art, design, film and photography.
