Beyond Ice Cream

BFA Fine Arts instructor John Parks wrote the cover article on California artist Wayne Thiebaud for the inaugural issue of Drawing magazine now out on newsstands. Parks says, “although Thiebaud’s paintings of food, the mouth watering displays of ice-creams, cakes, and sandwiches are now extremely famous, a huge body of work on paper remains relatively unknown. The piece in Drawing [will give people] the opportunity to look over Theibaud’s earliest work–he began as a cartoonist–and watch his development into the enormously deft and searching hand that became his hallmark.” The quarterly magazine is produced by American Artist and features both contemporary and old master draftsmen.
