International Strangers

September 5, 2003

Some of the most challenging and provocative photo-based art being made around the world today will be presented as the International Center of Photography (ICP) launches a triennial exhibition of contemporary photography and video. The exhibition, Strangers, includes the work of three artists associated with SVA: Justine Kurland (BFA 1996 Photography), Nancy Davenport (MFA 1991 Fine Arts, MFA Photography faculty) and Collier Schorr (BFA 1985 Communication Arts and MFA Photography faculty). Entirely filling the museum’s two gallery levels, Strangers includes a broad array of work, encompassing photographs made by traditional and digital methods, documentary and photojournalistic images, artists’ photo works and multimedia installations. On a whole, the exhibition features some 100 works by 40 artists from 20 countries and is accompanied by a series of public events. On view at ICP, 1133 Avenue of the Americas at 43rd Street, from September 13 through November 30.
