On September 30, the Alumni Society of SVA, in conjunction with the BFA Photography Department, will present the inaugural Distinguished Alumnus Lecture featuring artist and photographer Lorna Simpson (BFA 1983 Photography). In addition to her well-known photography work, Simpson has produced a significant body of film and video work over the past few years. Her video presentation 31 and the photographic exhibition Cameos and Appearances were featured last year at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Her work also has been featured at the Whitney Biennial Exhibition in 1991, 1993, 1995 and 2002. In 2002 a monograph of Simpson’s work was published by Phaidon and a copy is available for viewing in the Visual Arts Library. Simpson’s lecture will be held in the SVA Amphitheater at 7pm, 209 East 23rd Street, 3rd floor. She is represented by Sean Kelly Gallery, NYC.
