Wild Bunch

July 3, 2003

Co-curators Tim Rollins (BFA 1978 Fine Arts) and Tairone Bastien from The Annex Gallery at White Box are currently presenting The Wild Bunch, an exhibition including work by numerous SVA alumni artists. The Wild Bunch gets its name from the practice of “wilding,” a spontaneous outburst of uncontrolled and aggressive behavior. Common in the ’80s, wilding embodied a growing disregard for social conventions viewed as hypocritical by disenfranchised and alienated youth. Working on a national scale as a teacher for over two decades, Rollins has harnessed the spirit of wilding, transforming it into a productive and socially creative force for hundreds of young artists, particularly with his group K.O.S. (Kids of Survival). Rollins is currently the director of Tim Rollins and K.O.S. as well as an instructor in the BFA Fine Arts Department. Tairone Bastien is a Masters’ candidate at the Center for Curatorial Studies and curatorial intern at White Box in Manhattan. The Wild Bunch will be on view at The Annex Gallery at 601 West 26 Street, 14th floor through August 2.
