And the winner is… Allison Cole, a senior from the BFA Film, Video and Animation Department. The Directors Guild of America has named Cole as the Best Student Woman Director for her film Drowning. This prestigious award includes a prize of $2,500, and Cole’s film will be shown at an invitation-only screening on October 14 at 6:30pm at the Directors Guild Theater, 110 West 57 Street, New York.

In other film news, IFP/New York presents IFP Buzz Cuts, a monthly screening series of short films preceded by a reception of free pizza and beer and followed by a filmmaker Q & A. This month’s theme is “Student Buzz: Class of ’03,” and the film projects include three by recent SVA graduates: Maori Stanton (The Dark), Peter Phok (Long Island Love Story) and Greg Condon (Peanut Butter & Graduation). The event will be held on July 8 at 7pm at the Pioneer Theater, 155 East 3 Street.
