Fig News

April 4, 2003

Joe Fig (short for Fioriglio), associate director of special programs in SVA’s Office of Continuing Education, is generating quite a buzz for his artist studio miniatures. This month he’s featured in the “ARTtalk” section of ARTnews. From Willem de Kooning and Barnett Newman to Alice Neel and Will Cotton, Fig pays a tribute to artists through his creations while also revealing how they work in their studios. He recently submitted work, a diorama of Chuck Close’s studio, as part of an application for a residency at the Marie Walsh Sharp Foundation. Little did he know that Mr. Close was one of the judges. Mr. Close approved, of course, and Fig was accepted for the residency.
