Sex Sells . . . or Does It?

SVA faculty member and alum Lisa Retting-Falcone (Media Studies, 1983) had quite a challenge before her when creating a new ad campaign for New York’s recently opened Museum of Sex. As the project’s writer and photographer, she had to keep in mind that the ads were intended for telephone kiosks, and would thus be seen by the general public, including children. Still, the ads had to be provocative enough to grab the attention of adults. According to Creativity magazine, by using “seemingly innocuous black and white photographs” and keeping the sexy type small, she managed to pull off a campaign that works and is helping to bring large crowds to the new museum.
