The Magazine Rack. The MFA Illustration as Visual Essay Department presents an exhibition of more than 300 pieces of published artwork by the department’s current students and alumni. From editorial illustrations, children’s books, and graphic novels, the show includes the work of more than 100 artists and spans almost 20 years. February 6 -18 at the SVA Gallery, 209 East 23 Street; Reception: February 6, 5 – 7pm.

Animation Dreams VIII. The Film, Video & Animation Department presents its yearly animation extravaganza, highlighting work produced by second and third year students. The show will feature character models, storyboards, animation cells, background drawings, and films. February 6 – 8 at the Visual Arts Museum, 209 East 23 Street; Reception: February 6, 5 – 7pm.

Americana. This exhibition, presented by SVA and the College Art Association, is one of the many events happening during the association’s New York conference (February 19 – 22). The show is an artistic exploration of all things American. Rachel Gugelberger, associate director of Student Galleries and the Visual Arts Museum, is the co-curator of the exhibition. February 8 – 22 at the Westside Gallery, 141 West 21 Street; Reception: February 20, 6 – 8pm.
