In a League of His Own

January 17, 2003

For the second year in a row, the National Football League has chosen one of Daniel Simon’s (BFA Media Arts, 1984) designs to be the official logo of the Super Bowl (January 26 in San Diego). His treatment of San Diego’s historic Old Point Loma Lighthouse will adorn all things Super Bowl XXXVII, including the field. Last year his red, white and blue map of the United States was used after the NFL requested a patriotic symbol following the September 11 terrorist attacks. A lifelong sports fan, Mr. Simon said that seeing his work splashed across the 50-yard line and dressing the stage for some of the best players in football is like realizing his boyhood fantasy of playing pro sports. He has found success in applying his passion for sports to the dynamic field of sports design. Previously he spent five years designing custom merchandise for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
