The Eastside Gallery hosts BQE, a photographic essay by alumnus John Peters (BFA Graphic Design, 2002) that offers a close look at a specific group of homeless people who spend many hours of their days on or near the Brooklyn Queens Expressway in Williamsburg and Bedford Stuyvesant. Each image offers a poignant glimpse into a human reality that, as Peters writes, “We so desperately try to ignore.” BQE will be up December 7 – January 21, with a reception on December 12, 5 – 7pm. The gallery is located at 214 East 21 Street.
The Art Education Department will present Illuminations, an exhibition that features artwork created by middle and high school students participating in the department’s SVA Liberty Partnerships Program. The program, funded by the New York State Education Department, is committed to enhancing the development of inner city youths through their personal exploration of artistic creativity. The show will be on view December 12 – 30 at the Westside Gallery, 141 West 21 Street. A reception will be held on December 14, from 12 – 2pm.
