Lorna Simpson at SVA for Distinguished Alumnus Lecture

The Alumni Society of SVA, in conjunction with the BFA Photography Department, welcomes noted artist Lorna Simpson (BFA Photography, 1983) for the inaugural Distinguished Alumnus Lecture. This stellar event will take place Monday, December 2 at 6:30 pm in the SVA Amphitheater (209 East 23 Street, 3rd floor); it’s open to students, faculty, and staff. Ms. Simpson is a regular participant in major exhibitions such as the Whitney Biennial and Documenta, and has been featured at the Museum of Modern Art. A monograph, Lorna Simpson (Phaidon Press, 2002) was just published; it covers Ms. Simpson’s entire oeuvre and includes more than 130 illustrations. Her photographic exhibition Cameos and Appearances, and video installation 31 are currently showing at the Whitney Museum of American Art (Madison Avenue at 76th Street). Students are encouraged to visit both exhibitions prior to the lecture. Admission to the Whitney is pay-what-you-wish on Fridays, 6 – 9 pm; a student discount is available all other times.
