Culture Baby Scholarship: We Have a Winner

November 15, 2002

In a reception at Windows Over Harlem on November 14, freshman photography major Shirelle Fletcher was honored as the winner of the third annual Culture Baby Scholarship award. The Culture Baby Scholarship was established by SVA alumna Aleathia Brown (BFA Advertising/Art Education, 1987), in conjunction with the Alumni Society. The scholarship provides a $500 award and mentorship to an African-American or Caribbean-American SVA student. This mentorship is ongoing and involves Brown’s art peers and colleagues. A panel of judges representing SVA and Brown’s colleagues select the winner. With such a talented group to choose from this year, the panel elected for the first time to present an honorable mention award, which went to photography major Aaron Taylor.
