Once again it’s time for the BFA Photography Department’s marquee exhibition, Mentors. This stellar event features work inspired by mentorships between senior students and an intriguing array of leading New York City photographers, curators, and art directors The show runs April 6 – 27, with a reception on April 9 from 6 to 8 pm at Gallery Duggal, 29 West 23 Street.

It’s also time for the Advertising and Graphic Design Portfolio Show. The exhibition will consist of large format prints, digital video, 3-D design work (including pieces from Kevin O’Callaghan’s class), and more than 100 designs and ads. The show runs April 8 – 19, with a reception on April 8 from 6 – 8pm. It’s at the Art Directors Club, 106 West 29 Street (please call 643.1440 to RSVP).

The Art Therapy Department presents New Beginnings: Collective Imagery, its annual exhibition presenting artwork that stems from the therapist/client relationship. Also, a number of students will be presented with scholarships for excellence. The exhibition runs April 4 -17 at the Westside Gallery, 141 West 21 Street, with a reception on April 11 from 5 – 7pm. NOTE: the Spring Student Exhibitions and Presentations calendar incorrectly listed this reception for April 10.

The Fine Arts Department will present a panel discussion entitled Artists Visualizing Information. The panel of esteemed artists and academics will explore the new influences at work in art that combines language and image. Add some theory to your praxis and stop by the SVA Amphitheater, April 11 at 8pm.

On April 12, Tony Silver’s award-winning documentary about MFA Illustration chair Marshall Arisman comes to SVA. Arisman: Facing the Audience, along with The Lecture, a short film by Marshall Arisman (directed by Henry Chalfant), will be showing beginning at 6pm in the SVA Amphitheater (you must bring a photo ID to get into the building).
