MFA Computer Art Department Chair Bruce Wands has just completed a new book, Art of the Digital Age (Thames & Hudson). Conceived as the first major illustrated survey of the history of digital art, Wands has compiled information from digital artists, curators and new-media theorists to trace the field from its roots in the 1960s up to the present day. There are also 250 color illustrations throughout Art of the Digital Age, a year-by-year timeline of the medium’s milestones and a reference section devoted to current online-art projects, allowing readers to check out some of the latest digital artwork firsthand.
According to Wands, “Digital art is rapidly being incorporated into contemporary art, and this book will help people to understand its origins, as well as the artists who create it.” Wands is also the author of Digital Creativity: Techniques for Digital Media and the Internet (Wiley), which was published in 2001.
