SVA’s Steven Heller to Be Awarded at 2016 Carle Honors

MFA Design Co-chair Steven Heller has been named a 2016 Carle Honors recipient, which celebrates “talented people who have played an instrumental role in making children’s books a vibrant and influential art and literary form in America.” heller200Presented by the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, which was founded by Eric Carle, the renowned author and illustrator of more than 70 books, including the 1969 classic The Very Hungry Caterpillar, the annual event recognizes just four honorees: Heller will receive a Bridge award, which is given to individuals who have found inspired ways to bring the art of the picture book to larger audiences through work in other fields.

This year’s gala awards ceremony will take place at Guastavino’s in New York City on Wednesday, September 28. Awards will be presented by Gregory Maguire, the author of three dozen books for young readers and adults and best known for his novel, Wicked.
