To kick-off orientation week, SVA Close Up would like to enthusiastically welcome the incoming class of 2019 to the School of Visual Arts community. Comprising more than 1,000 students, the College’s new cohort hails from 37 states and 36 countries, and nearly 27 percent are transfer students.
To help students acclimate to life at SVA, orientation week, running Saturday, August 29, through Sunday, September 6, includes activities and info-sessions designed to introduce students to New York City, the College and each other.
Among the many scheduled events: a series of local tours called Navigating Your Neighborhood; Flaunt Your Flavor, a frozen yogurt social (Monday, August 31); a student leadership open house, to learn about how to get involved on campus (Tuesday, September 1); a SVA Chelsea Gallery open house and tour (Thursday, September 3) and the concluding blowout, Groove-a-thon, to be held at the SVA Student Center on Friday, September 4.
In conjunction with new students’ arrival, the SVA Campus Store has reopened at its 207 East 23rd Street storefront location, after a summer-long redesign and renovation. New features include an expanded Apple demo space, a video wall, listening stations for headphones and speakers and a book section that highlights faculty, staff and alumni publications. Current special offers include free Beats headphones with any Mac purchase and a $35 “tech bundle” that includes essentials like a hard drive, laptop case or rechargeable batteries, stylus and tech cloth.
