Five SVA alumni were recently named winners of the Magenta Foundation’s 2015 Flash Forward Emerging Photographers Competition. Nir Arieli (BFA 2012 Photography), Allison Barnes (BFA 2009 Photography), Yoav Friedländer (MFA 2014 Photography, Video and Related Media), Alison Malone (MFA 2008 MFA Photography, Video and Related Media), and Matin Zad (MPS 2013 Fashion Photography) were all recognized by a jury compromised of renown curators, creative directors, photo editors and other industry experts from publications and organizations such as Telegraph magazine, The Globe and Mail, Photoville and Carnegie Museum of Art, to name a few.
This year’s winners had their work displayed at the recent 2015 Flash Forward Festival, held throughout Boston. In addition, photos by the honorees were included in the accompanying catalog for the fest. For the past 11 years, the Flash Forward competition has encouraged photographers to produce unique and arresting images, and has increasingly been recognized as an important platform for introducing emerging talent from Canada, the U.K. and the U.S. to world-wide audiences.
The Magenta Foundation, a Canada-based non-profit publishing house, is dedicated to organizing opportunities for artists on an international scale through exhibitions and publications. For more information on Flash Forward, click here.
