Three solo exhibitions by recent SVA alumni are now up in various Manhattan galleries. If you’re in town these next few weeks, check them out before they come down.
“Motherboard,” featuring paintings by Ali Banisadr (MFA 2005 Fine Arts), is on view through April 19 at Sperone Westwater, 257 Bowery. Banisadr’s brushstrokes, evocative of both movement and sound, create worlds that are neither wholly abstract nor wholly figurative. The artist is the subject of a recent profile in the Wall Street Journal and interview in Interview; a 47-page catalog, with an essay by Jeffrey Deitch, is also available. The gallery is hosting a conversation with Banisadr on Tuesday, April 8, 6:00pm (RSVP by April 4 to [email protected]).
Teresa Henriques (MFA Fine Arts 2010) is showing sketches and scale models for some of her as-yet unveiled mixed-media and sculptural works in “Prospective,” on view at the Rooster Gallery, 190 Orchard Street, through April 20. This is Henriques’ second solo exhibition with the gallery.
