On the invitation of Shuzo Shiota (president of the premiere Japanese animation company Polygon Pictures), BFA Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects Department Chair John McIntosh will lead a business symposium entitled “Challenges Finding and Nurturing and Keeping Local Talent” at the upcoming SIGGRAPH Asia 2013 conference in Hong Kong, November 19 – 22. McIntosh’s talk will examine how the growth of any creative industry relies on the quality of talent it is able to attract and sustain and will address questions, such as: Do the needs of the film and animation industries align with the educational approaches of colleges and universities? Globally, what are the characteristics and strengths of the talent base in each region? Are they competitive to that of the West and do they need to be?
McIntosh will be accompanied by some recent BFA Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects alumni: Lightning Larry by Dan Solomon (2013) and Hyun Jun Song (2013) will screen at the festival, as well as Spacebound (watch below) by Ellen Su (2013) and Kyle Moy (2013).
