Over two-dozen MFA Illustration as Visual Essay Department students and alumni have partnered with the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and Moleskine to celebrate the centennial of Marcel Proust’s In Search of a Lost Time and its first installment, Swann’s Way. In a weeklong “nomadic reading” series, participants will tour through NYC nightclubs, hotel rooms and gardens from the Bronx to Brooklyn.
SVA students and alumni will participate in live drawings at the events, as attendees eat madeleines and drink champagne in venues designed to echo predominate themes of the readings. Beginning on November 8 at the Wythe Hotel, guests will enjoy recitations of Proust’s provocatively autobiographical text by arts and culture heavy hitters Rick Moody, Lorin Stein, Ben Lerner, Ira Glass, Lydia Davis, comedian Mike Birbiglia and Cronut inventor Dominique Ansel, to name a few. Special surprise guest readers will be at most of the events, too.
Following the Swann’s Way festivities, selected works by SVA artists will be exhibited during a private reception at the French Embassy on November 14. Proust-inspired moleskin illustrations by SVA students are currently on display at the Moleskine store in SoHo. For more information, click here.
