Design Is One: Lella & Massimo Vignelli, a documentary co-directed and produced by MFA Art Practice and MFA Computer Art faculty member Kathy Brew, begins a weeklong run on October 11 at the IFC Center, 323 Sixth Avenue, in Manhattan.
Design Is One looks at the personal and professional lives of the influential design duo of Lella and Massimo Vignelli, documenting their 50 years of collaboration. Together, they have produced logos and branding for such companies as American Airlines, Bloomingdales, Ford and Knoll, as well as the iconography and signage for the New York City subway system—one of the most enduring and well-known elements of the city’s visual identity.
In addition to its IFC run, Brew’s film will have several screenings both internationally and domestically in the coming months. Following its theatrical release, First Run Features will distribute Design Is One for home and educational use. For more information, visit designisonefilm.com.
