Since 2003, SVA has participated in the New York City Affordable Art Fair, an annual, four-day event offering works by a variety of established and emerging artists and galleries.Through its presence at the fair, the College provides selected students a platform to show and sell their work to an international audience of dealers, patrons, and fellow creatives.
This year’s fair ran from April 3 to 7 at the Metropolitan Pavilion. The College’s booth featured 11 students from three degree programs: Bryce Alden Kroll and Mike Madden (BFA Fine Arts Department); Patrick Fleischman, Ruby Johnstone, Mitch Paster, and Ilona Szwarc (BFA Photography Department); and Rob Campbell (whom SVA Close Up interviewed last week), Bo Kim, Patrick Shoemaker, Mark de Wilde, and Minseop Yoon (MFA Fine Arts Department).
As in all prior years, Dan Halm, project manager for External Relations, ran the SVA booth. “It’s one of the best parts of my job,” he says. “Nothing makes me feel better than helping students as they transition from just making their work to presenting it to the art market and the general public.”
