On April 9th, Pixar representatives visited SVA to discuss their summer internship program and meet students, faculty and staff. Pixar’s Jennifer Dunlap (Recruiter, University Relations) and Andy Beall (Senior Manager for Animation) joined the BFA Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects students for a pizza party and talked about their careers at Pixar. They also discussed the types of opportunities Pixar offers, including animation internships and the PUPS (Pixar Undergraduate Program). Andy Beall has worked on 13 feature films, including The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Up to name a few. During the lunch, Pixar was treated to a screening of an animated production by the Junior class (Fright Shift).
Pixar reps met with faculty and staff throughout the day and learned about the MFA Computer Art Department and SVA’s soon to launch MFA Visual Narrative program. Pixar also interviewed SVA students whose work had been preselected for internship program consideration.
In the evening, students attended a Pixar presentation at the SVA Theatre. Beall and Dunlap discussed Pixar’s internship program, described what they look for in animation reels when selecting interns and staff, and screened Pixar’s newest animated short films. The event was hosted by the Office of Career Development; the BFA Computer Art, Computer Animation, and Visual Effects Department; and the MFA Computer Art Department.
