The third New York Fashion Film Festival takes place on Thursday, January 31 from 7 – 9:30pm at the SVA Theatre, 333 West 23rd Street. Hosted by the MPS Fashion Photography Department, this year’s festival offers a select screening of fashion films—including works by Ryan McGinley, Inez & Vinoodh, Jeff Bark and Lisa Paclet—followed by a panel discussion on the genre and its growing influence on the industry with writer Glenn O’Brien, film producer Maria Gallagher, and filmmaker and illustrator Quentin Jones.
O’Brien has written about art and culture for publications such as ArtForum, GQ, Harper’s Bazaar, Interview and Paper, as well as for numerous artists’ monographs and catalog essays. He was a founding editor of Spin and Bomb magazines, created advertising campaigns for Barneys New York and Calvin Klein and, from 1978 to 1982, hosted Glenn O’Brien’s TV Party, an influential cable talk show. Gallagher is executive producer at RSA Films, an advertising production company, and also teaches in the MPS Fashion Photography Department. She has produced films and commercials for clients such as Apple, Calvin Klein, HBO, Lancôme and Prada. Jones has directed promotional shorts for Chanel, Victoria Beckham and House of Waris and produced animations, collages and illustrations for AnOther Magazine, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Wallpaper.
