239 Days: An Exhibition of Works by SVA’s 2012 MFA Fine Arts Graduates

January 3, 2013

Graduates of the 2012 class of SVA’s MFA Fine Arts Department unite for a group exhibition entitled “239 Days” at Allegra LaViola Gallery, 179 East Broadway, New York City, on view from January 4 – 12 (opening reception Friday, January 4 from 6 – 9pm). Occupying both levels of the gallery, the exhibition features works in painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, video and sound—all of it completed within the 239-day period from when the artists received their Master’s degrees to the opening of the exhibition.

The works range in scale from the modest, genre-inflected paintings of Hee Won Seo and the cryptic, semi-narrative sculptures of Kim Smith to the environmental scope of Eric Mistretta’s ceiling-based installation and the monumental color-centric grid painting by Hyun Soon Kim. Other members of the class of 2012 participating in the show are Chie Araki, Nick Bakita, Victoria Batey, Eleni Beristianou, Andrew Brischler, Steven Chapman, Eli Gabriel Halpern, Herhsuan Hsieh, Elan Jurado, Eun Jung Kim, Sharon Kirby, Jonas Lara, Kacie Lees, Amelia Midori Miller, Augustus Nazzaro, David Ostro, Jenny Santos, Hunter Speagle, Miryana Todorova, Ken Wahl, Christina Wang, Rebecca Ward and James Brendan Williams.
