The United States Postal Service (USPS) is releasing a new series of stamps for 2013 and has just revealed the first one, the Emancipation Proclamation stamp designed by MFA Design Department and BFA Advertising and Graphic Design Department faculty member Gail Anderson (BFA 1984 Graphic Design). Produced with art director Antonio Alcalá, the stamp
commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and was designed by Anderson to evoke the look of broadsides from the Civil War era.
The stamp is available for pre-order at usps.com/stamps or by phone at 800-STAMP24 (800-782-6724), and 5,000 limited-edition 16″ x 23″ posters featuring the stamp are available online now. The posters were made using a traditional letterpress printing process that makes each one unique, and the first 1,000 will be autographed by Anderson.
